Health, Exercise & Nutrition Support
When someone starts taking care of their body again, it shows. They sleep better, they think more clearly, they handle stress differently. Physical health is not separate from addiction recovery and mental health. At Arch to Freedom, we treat them as one connected system.
Physical Wellness as a Foundation for Recovery
Guests at Arch to Freedom have access to our on-site gym at Freedom House, local gym memberships, pools, and a cold plunge. Pete Thunem, one of our veteran Case Managers and a certified Personal Trainer, leads a weekly group workout class and offers one-on-one personal training that blends physical fitness with mindset work and recovery coaching. His approach helps guests develop exercise and nutrition routines that are sustainable and aligned with their personal recovery goals. Pete’s classes are popular for a reason. They push guests physically, but they also create a space where guys can challenge themselves and build confidence alongside their peers.
Fitness, Nutrition, and Taking Care of Your Body
Beyond formal training, many of our Case Managers assist guests with nutrition guidance, meal preparation, and building consistent wellness habits. In our transitional housing environment, these daily routines become anchors that support structure, discipline, and overall well-being. Something as simple as cooking a healthy meal, getting to the gym three times a week, or using the cold plunge after a long day creates rhythm and reinforces the sense that a guest is taking their recovery seriously.
For men working through substance use and mental health challenges, the physical benefits of exercise are well-documented: better sleep, reduced anxiety, improved mood, and sharper focus. But what we see at Arch goes beyond the clinical. Guests who commit to their physical health start carrying themselves differently. They show up with more energy, more confidence, and a stronger belief that they are building something worth protecting.
